“You’re gonna miss me when I’m gone,” Lulu and the Lampshades. Swiped from YouTube, thanks to “Nicomade.”

this is the most hilarious art-trip i’ve ever seen! rube goldberg to a whole new level! my thanks to linda mcbee for turning me on to it.

TEMPLE GRANDIN – this is a video just out (february, 2010) of a talk temple grandin gave at TED. you may have seen the movie by the same name starring claire danes, who gave a wonderful performance! temple grandin is well known as an autistic person who learned social skills enough to discover her amazing aptitudes. since the 1980s, she is responsible for more than half the cattle slaughter facilities in the USA being redesigned so that they do not frighten the cattle, thus being humane as well as saving a lot of money for injured animals. in this video she talks about different kinds of thinking: visual, patterned, and verbal. her own is purely visual. mathematicians are more pattern thinkers. journalists are verbal. and artists? you decide! this is WELL worth watching!

The Maori Haka is amazing! Based in poetry, telling stories of love, war, adventure, and myth, it is most familiar to us now as a battle challenge, a war dance. It is much more, though. After this one plays, on the bottom scroll you can find another video of the new zealand AllBlacks doing the Haka, with a translation of the poem (the video is rated “good quality” for that reason). Watch and learn..

This is hilarious – the day in 1970 (the good ole days..) Dock Ellis pitched a no-hitter on LSD for the Pirates.

in the same vein as this video, artists sasha duerr and catherine richardson host a workshop on natural dyes, harvesting rainwater, and making dinner of the plants, too. [for more info, go to artspace404 blog]. i love this! these folks are moving slowly enough and softly enough – and are listening intently enough to nature – to tune into which plants are which, what they can do, and what we can do with them. being there with nature without stress and rush is what it takes, same as what it takes to feel a scene so you can paint in plein air – or any other kind of art anywhere else. ♥

Creativity is the flame that lights the dark caverns we wander….

Elizabeth Gilbert lays it out: it ain’t you that’s the genius, sweetie, it’s genius that’s taken hold of you!

Linda’s comment 4/22/09: “Hey…..I just watched the TED video. I still have tears in my eyes. Very cool. Perhaps I haven’t been showing up at my job….?”

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT….

Hahahahaha!

Watch it! Betcha can’t not laugh!
